May 20 Care Mission
Walk with a Senior
Looking for an activity that can boost senior health, provide companionship, and even reduce stress? Just "walk this way" to learn more.
Your Care Mission:
Did you know walking has multiple benefits for senior women? According to a Temple University study, walking provided some unique benefits to post-menopausal women. In addition to increasing overall health and fitness, high levels of physical activity helped lower levels of perceived stress than those who did not exercise. A brisk walk can reduce a variety of psychological symptoms such as anxiety, stress and depression.
A walking buddy may also help decrease stress levels by adding a daily dose of human contact and companionship. Here are some top places to walk with friends:
- Downtown city blocks
- Shopping malls
- In suburban neighborhoods
- Community parks and trails
If you enjoy a good walk, invite a senior to join you for companionship, stress relief, and overall good health.
