The Facts: “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart,” said Elizabeth Andrew. This is a busy time of year, but your gift of time can help make this season brighter for others.

According to a survey released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2016, collecting, preparing, distributing, or serving food was the activity volunteers performed most often. This area of need is highlighted by the fact that nearly 9 million seniors face the threat of hunger in the United State, according to Meals on Wheels America.

Whether it’s hunger or another cause close to your heart, these resources may help you find a local volunteer opportunity this season:

  1. Connect with your local Meals on Wheels to volunteer.

  2. Use to find an organization near you that helps seniors.

  3. Contact your local civic or religious organizations to see how you can get involved. Many operate soup kitchens or food drives this time of year.

  4. You can also connect with us on Facebook or Instagram, and use the hashtag #ReadyToCare to share your care mission experience.

Spent time with my sister in-law who suffers from Parkinson’s and demencia on her birthday and took her chocolates! We both get emotional when time for me to leave! I know in her heart she loves and appreciates my time with her!
