Aug 27 Care Mission
Share Your Garden Bounty
Gardens are overflowing this time of year. Share the fruits of your labor with your senior neighbors in a delicious and nutritious simple act of care.
The Facts: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), seniors are especially vulnerable to malnutrition and may face other barriers to adequate nutrition. Cost of food, transportation challenges, and impaired cognitive function are all factors that can hinder healthy diets in older adults. According to WHO, “Increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables by one to two servings daily could cut cardiovascular risk by 30%,” so eating fresh, delicious food can have bonus benefits.
Complete your care mission by giving fresh fruits or vegetables to a senior neighbor. Don’t have a garden? Pick up a few extra apples or pears from your local market and share them with senior friends and neighbors at home.
