The Facts: Amber, a Ready to Care participant, described what it was like to complete a care mission. “I was walking out the store and waited a few seconds to open the door for a gentleman and said good morning. He just smiled. It made my day to see that smile.” Amber’s experience reminds us that a small act of kindness can mean the world to someone else.

It’s just kindness. That’s not hard.

Letting an older customer go ahead of you in the checkout lane. That’s an act of kindness appreciated by most everyone.

Asking if you can carry something that’s a little heavy up to the checkout counter will be appreciated.

One of my favorite missions was to mail my clients a post card when I was on vacation! To see the expressions on there faces when I got back that I took time out of my vacation to send them a card was priceless!

I USE THIS LITTLE INSPIRATION WITH MY MOM BECAUSE SHE GETS DOWN SOMETIMES. AND I SHARED IT WITH AN OLDER COUPLE IN THE STORE THEY WERE SO CUTE TOGETHER.
“ AND IT IS STILL TRUE NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE
WHEN YOU GO OUT INTO THE WORLD. IT IS BEST TO ALWAYS HOLD HANDS AND STICK TOGETHER, TOGETHER WE CAN DO WHAT WE CAN NOT DO ALONE”. I shared that saying which is my moms and my
MANTRA. WITH THE COUPLE SHOPPING TOGETHER AND I STARTED TALKING TO THEM, AND WHEN THEY GO OUT IT IS NEVER ALONE. SO I SHARED THAT LITTLE SAYING WITH THEM AND THEY LOVED IT. AND THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT NO MATTER HOW OLD WE ARE WE SHOULD STICK TOGETHER AND HOLD HANDS, AND REMEMBER THAT WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER, RATHER THAN FACE THE WORLD ALONE. WE CHATTED A LITTLE WHILE MORE AND I COULD TELL. THAT JUST A LITTLE SAYING LIKE THAT, TURNS INTO A WAY OF LIFE FOR OLDER COUPLES. THEY WERE SO NICE AND SO CUTE TOGETHER. AND WE WERE ALL SMILING WHEN WE WENT OUR OWN WAY. I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT IT TRULY IS THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE THAT MATTER. I AM ONLY 55 BUT FEEL LIKE A KID AND STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN.

I met this senior gentleman at the supermarket who wanted to chat about the appliance the air fryer. I really was in a hurry but took five minutes of my time to listen. He was so happy for those five minutes of conversation and walked away with a smile from ear to ear. My five minutes made his day.

My senior doesn’t know how much she saved me. She says that she’s nothing special but I let her know all of the time of just how her little actions mean so much.
