Your Care Mission:

Have you ever borrowed a cup of sugar from a neighbor? Being friendly with your neighbors can be rewarding and help you feel more connected to your community. In addition to having a helping hand at times, you can also help keep a watchful eye on neighbors. This can be a benefit for older neighbors who may be living alone or need assistance from time to time.

But first, you have to meet the people who live near you!

Here are some ways you can make the first move and introduce yourself.

  1. Spend time on your front porch. You can see who walks the dog, when people get their mail, and who spends time outside. Wave at people when they pass and strike up a conversation if the time is right.
  2. Doing yardwork or gardening in the front yard gives you a chance to be more visible and strike up a conversation with neighbors that are doing the same.
  3. Go for walks often. Don’t wait for people to come to you! Hit the pavement and remember to smile, wave, and say hi to other neighbors you pass.
  4. Organize a neighborhood party. This could be one of the best ways to bring neighbors of all ages together. A potluck is an easy way to host a gathering that allows people to get to know each other.
  5. Be welcoming. When someone new moves in, walk over and introduce yourself, bring them a welcome gift, or offer to give them a hand.
  6. Connect others. Introduce your neighbors to each other to help strengthen community relationships. They may do the same in return, helping you to expand your circle as well.

  8. We were leaving to take care of time sensitive errand when I saw my neighbor outside. She’s not outside often and I’d heard she had not been doing well. We backed up to talk but I got out so I could hear her. We talked about 15 minutes and laughed and enjoyed the autumn air and that precious moment. She was worth it and it blessed all 4 of us

  9. This is s great tip for neighbor connecting. I read it takes @ 8 face to face meetings to gather intel/impressions of another person before you csn decipher if you two are friend matches. So, go ahead and and interact and see what happens!!! I touch base with the young couple next door by waving across our driveways and asking about their little kids. Same across the fence with the couple with 3 young boys next to us on the other side. It paid off in swapping gardening tips (I’m a Master Gardener and a former preschool and grade school teacher) andnow both yards look great!!

  10. <3 I am an over the road Flatbed Truck Driver and I make a point to connect with people from all over. Especially the vets who have served our beautiful USA. We pray together, chit chat in various truck stop diners and other restaurants that truckers eat at. This is on going and hopefully one day…I will be able to share photos of the people I meet… (meaning the mature and AWESOME seniors)
    God Bless Us All!

  14. I’ve lived in my neighborhood for 19 yrs, a lot of new people has moved in, I lock myself out my house so I walked up the street and started knocking on all my neighbors door to see who can lend me a ladder so I can climb through the kitchen window, a neighbor came to the door 🚪 and says I can lend you a ladder I was sooo happy, I hugged her and kissed her face come to find out, she’s from my island 🌴 so we chatted for a while and I gave her my phone number so she can come and work out with me @ the gym because she says she needed help losing weight and I told her I can help her because I go to the gym 6 days a week and I also do yoga 3 days a week, she was very happy and I was happy that I can help too… “To God be the glory”

  15. I go around to most of the Seniors houses in my neighborhood and I will help them hook up and then set up all of their electronics throughout their homes, as they find it particularly challenging to do it themselves! And I never charge them a dime to do it… When I refuse to take any money for doing these types of things for them, they usually offer to take me out for a meal sometime & then I say ok, I can do that but only if you allow me to drive you there and back to the restaurant of your choosing? Which they happily agree to, as who doesn’t want to be chauffeured to the restaurant if their choice? Right? And then we get to share some more time together and catch up on what is happening in our lives lately! It’s a win-win situation for all involved… Share the love people! 🌈🦋🙏😇♥️😘💐
