Sep 10 Care Mission
Help a Senior at the Grocery Store
Reach up, carry a bag, open a door – all at the grocery store. When you're shopping, complete your care mission by offering to give a senior an extra helping hand.
The Facts: Mobility, arthritis, or crowded aisles can make grocery shopping a bit harder for some seniors. Reaching up or stooping low may be difficult for someone with limited mobility, while navigating a heavy cart in a crowded store can be challenging.
Even if you’re in a hurry, slow down and channel your inner empathy to help a senior who may need an extra hand. Here are five ways you can complete this care mission:
Hold a door open for a senior carrying bags or pushing a cart.
If you see someone struggling to reach an item placed high or low, offer to get it for them.
In the parking lot, offer to take a senior’s empty grocery cart back to the return.
Ask a senior if they need a hand with a heavy item, like a bag of cat food.
Slow down, smile, and spread kindness. Pause for slower shoppers in the aisle. Be patient if someone is taking a long time at check out. Offer to help.
