Your Care Mission:

“Be Care Curious” is the 2019 theme for National Family Caregivers Month, which falls in November each year. Every day, millions of people care for their senior loved ones, providing meals, companionship, transportation, chores, and support for other daily living activities.

This week, reach out to someone who is caring for a senior loved one and offer THEM support. By helping them, you’re also supporting the seniors they care for.

3 Ways to Help Family Caregivers

  1. Emotional support. Reach out and be a trusted source of support by letting them share their thoughts and feelings without judgement.
  2. Provide breaks. If it’s possible, offer to spend time with your friend or relative’s loved one so they can have a break if they need one. Even a few hours can make a big difference for a caregiver who needs some respite.
  3. Offer other help. More than 37% of people caring for older adults also have children or grandchildren under 18 years old living with them, according to Caregiving in the U.S., conducted by the National Alliance for Caregiving in collaboration with AARP. You could provide support by helping with other home responsibilities, such as picking up kids from practice, babysitting, running errands, or dropping off meals to a family.
